Early celebration for Kg Melayu

GEORGE TOWN: THE Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive mood swept over Kampung Melayu as hundreds of residents converged at a recent break fast gathering here.

As Ramadan draws to a close, the residents’ association held the get-together to usher in Syawal.
On hand to spread the Raya cheer were state Agriculture, Agro-based Industries, Rural Development and Heath Committee chairman Dr Afif Bahardin and Air Itam assemblyman Wong Hon Wai.

Both men handed zakat (tithe) and duit raya to the less privileged groups, including the visually-impaired and physically-challenged, at an annual break fast and aid handover ceremony held at the densely populated low-cost flats.

Dr Afif urged Muslims to maintain their self-restraint as the fasting period was coming to an end.
“Fasting in Ramadan is one of the pillars of the Islamic faith. It is vital for every Muslim to remain committed to the faith until the end of the fasting month,” Dr Afif said.

The residents were feted with Malay traditional cuisine. Present was Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng.
